Cerebral Palsy

It is the term given to a number of disorders that affect an individual’s ability to move and their coordination resulting from problems with parts of the brain which may have occurred during pregnancy or shortly after birth. Cerebral palsy can affect people in different ways but typically in the areas of body movement, muscle control, balance and posture. Because of its complexity, other parts of the brain responsible for learning, hearing, vision and communication can also be affected. Cerebral palsy is a lifelong condition and does not have a cure. However, the symptoms can be treated with drugs and or therapies. Discuss any concerns you have with your child’s paediatrician.
