Conduct Disorder/ Oppositional Defiant Disorder (CD/ODD)

This is a disorder characterised by a pattern of temperamental, disruptive and aggressive behaviour with particular difficulty in accepting instructions from people in authority. It is not unusual for children to go through a phase of defiance when they are toddlers and teenagers but this is not expected to be long-lasting or disruptive to everyday life. The disorder makes it difficult to get along with other people and also makes the individual prone to violence with very little remorse. This condition can also be co-morbid with ADD/ADHD. The exact cause of CD/ODD is unknown but research suggests biological, genetics and environmental factors as contributors. When observed in children, it is known as Oppositional Defiant Disorder and if left unmanaged, can develop into Conduct Disorder. Discuss any concerns you have with your child’s pediatrician.
