Language Disorder

This is a condition where an individual has persistent difficulty using language for receiving and or communicating information and feelings. Although this condition may present with symptoms similar to speech delay, they are different. This is more of not knowing what to do rather not doing. The condition may present either as receptive language disorder where the individual struggles with understanding what is being said or expressive language disorder where an individual struggles with expressing themselves and how they feel, or a combination of the two. There are no known causes for language disorders but research suggests possible factors such as genetics, preterm birth, and other related conditions like autism. As with other developmental conditions, parents need to keep track of their children’s developmental milestones and discuss any concerns with the child’s paediatrician.
