Tourette’s Syndrome

This is a neurological condition that is characterised mainly by multiple motor and or vocal tics. The tics have a high occurrence and are usually uncontrollable by the person experiencing them. The tics can either be simple such as just a sound or complex involving a string of words. It starts in childhood and usually continues into adulthood. The cause of Tourette’s Syndrome is unknown but the symptoms can be controlled with appropriate therapy and treatment. Tourette’s can coexist with other conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
